OK, I think a little explanation may be in order here.  I started simplemath in February of 2000 as a way of showing my design portfolio. I was looking for a job after college, and thought that it would be the best. Over the years, it has morphed into an actual online diary, a way to tell stories about my life, and a way for me to remember. Write it down and remember; it was good enough for Mad Max in Thunderdome and it was good enough for me.

But in the past year, I’ve been too busy living to write it down, and frankly most of what was going on I didn’t want to write; either it was so bad I wanted to forget or so good I wanted to keep it to myself.

So, now is this new format, tumbling. Quick little bits, ephemera really. Less confessional, less of a journal. You can still expect occasional stories, but you should also expect to see mostly videos, quotes, and links.

Read, remember, enjoy.

I will always remember the summer of 2005 as the summer of dentistry. After 5 years of dental neglect — engendered by Fear of the Dentist — my teeth had had enough, and I was forced to seek the services of a dental professional. Since May, I have sat in the big boy chair six times; two cleanings, a root canal, 3 wisdom teeth extractions, a partridge and a pear tree.

Today was to be my final exam — no pun intended — where Dr. Cote was to apply a crown to my root-canaled-tooth, and I was honestly really excited about it. Finally, I am cured of my Fear of the Dentist. Until he called me last night.

Apparently, there was a fire in his office on Friday afternoon, and the office will be closed for four to five weeks for repairs. So, no dentistry for me.

When the universe sends me a sign, it really sends me a sign.

It’s all just Simple Math to me.

The main obstacle to producing a personal web site is not bandwidth or technology, but rather substance. Honestly, most people don’t have much of importance to say, and I’m no exception. Yes, the web is interactive. . . but personal sites are always a monologue. So rather than waste valuable bandwidth displaying pictures of my cats or listing the complete contents of my music collection, I deliver this small offering. Enjoy.

For the terminally curious. . . I grew up in Cheraw, South Carolina. In 1994, I entered Davidson College in North Carolina. Four years and one thousand cups of coffee later, I was granted a degree in History and was sent on my way. I stayed in Davidson where I worked in the Archives of the college library and did a little freelance web design. In June of 2000 I hitched up to the big city of Washington DC and started working at an honest-to-goodness web concern — Away.com.
Fast forward  seven years later, I have landed my dream job at the world famous Threespot Media. Home of the never-ending awesomeness.

New home and new look. I just moved from my old host (Valueweb) to a new host (Dreamhost). The change was a snap, and between their awesome control panel, and their one-click install of Wordpress, the whole move took about 12 hours. The current design is one of the Wordpress available themes, but soon I will make it my own.

Anyway, if you are looking for a web host, let me suggest Dreamhost. They are good, fast, and inexpensive.

I stayed in Davidson where I continue to work in the Archives of the college library and do a little freelance web design. You can see a partial portfolio here. Then I hitched up to the big city and started working at an honest-to-goodness web concern. This is all chronicled in excrutiating detail in my brain
