The Problem With Christmas

The problem with Christmas is not the batteries. The problem isn’t even really the stuff. The problem with Christmas is that no one much likes it anymore.

My ears are still ringing. Dinosaur Jr played at the Black Cat last night, and (foolishly) I made my way down to show with Tony K. J, Lou, and Murph played all of the old favorites and a fair sprinkling of new stuff. Overall, a pretty good show, though nothing spectacular.

I hate to say I am getting to old for this stuff, but I fear it may be true. I didn’t take into account the fact that it was a Tuesday night, and that this morning I would need to be at work. So, here I am at the Threespot world headquarters into my first and only cup of coffee.

I actually regret going to the show. I would have rather stayed home last night and watched House. That sucks.

The Killers New Album

The Killers have released a collection of B-sides, rarities and covers, called Sawdust. Standout tracks include a live version of Sam’s Town, recorded at Abbey Road, as well as covers of Dire Straits’ Romeo and Juliet and Kenny Rogers’ Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town.

Both covers are surprisingly good — definitely worth a download from iTunes.

The Nerd Handbook

Care and feeding of your nerd.

Ok, So last week, we finally broke down and got Verizon’s FIOS internet and cable TV. Installation was super-easy and the service is amazing. I haven’t had cable TV since June of 2000 and I guess alot has changed. Today the most amazing thing happened. I found out that Cable on Demand also has free primetime television. I just watched last week’s episode of NCIS.

I may never leave the house again.

OK, I think a little explanation may be in order here.  I started simplemath in February of 2000 as a way of showing my design portfolio. I was looking for a job after college, and thought that it would be the best. Over the years, it has morphed into an actual online diary, a way to tell stories about my life, and a way for me to remember. Write it down and remember; it was good enough for Mad Max in Thunderdome and it was good enough for me.

But in the past year, I’ve been too busy living to write it down, and frankly most of what was going on I didn’t want to write; either it was so bad I wanted to forget or so good I wanted to keep it to myself.

So, now is this new format, tumbling. Quick little bits, ephemera really. Less confessional, less of a journal. You can still expect occasional stories, but you should also expect to see mostly videos, quotes, and links.
